3DCC was founded in 2006 as a cooperative venture to develop specialized stereoscopic (3D) image capture equipment for the international motion picture and broadcast industry. The offices of 3DCC, located in Toronto, Canada, now serve an international market. Since it's inception, 3DCC has successfully developed a wide range of specialized and unique stereoscopic systems that integrate with large format systems. 3D Digital-Cinema (DCI compliant) and IMAX formats are all supported. 3DCC has supplied stereoscopic equipment and crews to a variety of IMAX 3D films and Hollywood 3D Feature Films. In conjunction with Silicon Imaging, 3DCC was the first company to capture RAW uncompressed files for professional Dramatic 3D. The 3D-SI Hawkeye system, a camera that contains two SI cameras within one body, has now been introduced to the market. 3DCC has also developed, with Silicon Imaging, the SI-3D Broadcast System. The SI-3D Cameras captures and records RAW uncompressed 2K Data [2048 x 1152 pixels] and in Real Time converts the RAW Data to HD-SDI Left and Right eye signals for Live-Data Switching and Up-Link to Satellite for Global Distribution. This 3D System provides for an extremely compact, lightweight and versatile solution for Sports / Broadcast applications. 3DCC also provides technical crews to facilitate stereoscopic productions. 3DCC offers the services of experienced, award winning Stereographers, Camera Operators, Assistant Camera persons and Data Information Technologists. Creative and production consulting is also available. 3DCC has established a full 3D service vehicle for motion pictures and broadcast, supplying the equipment and expertise to allow for efficient, effective and successful stereoscopic productions.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The objective of this course is to provide course-participants practical experience in assembling and running a 3D Camera System, producing professional live-action stereoscopic footage and preparing the footage for 3D postproduction.

BY THE END OF THIS PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WILL:

• Understand the fundamentals and core concepts of 3D image capture (stereoscopy)

• Produce professional 3D images with Silicon Imaging (SI-2K) cameras

• Learn how to safely backup and store 3D data

• Choose an appropriate 3D workflow for 3D post-production

THE WORKSHOP FOCUSES ON TEACHING:

• PRACTICAL 3D PRODUCTION KNOWLEDGE

• CREATIVE WORK EXPERIENCE

• CRITICAL THINKING

Participants will:

Assemble a 3D camera system with these components:

• 2 SI-2K cameras

• 3DCC TC-100

• Cables

• Disks

• Sled

• Battery

• Matte box

• Capture professional quality digital 3D images using the tools provided in the

SiliconDVR software. These tools include:

• The Histogram

• False colour meter

• Red edging

• 3D alignment grid

• Spot meter

CREATIVE WORK EXPERIENCE

Participants will:

• Produce 3D images that highlight the unique advantages of stereoscopy, and are also comfortable to view.

• Learn how to shoot a subject in 3D to produce images that are "uncomfortable" for their audience to watch, in order to identify both the advantages and limitations of stereoscopic imagery.

• Learn how to identify alignment problems, as well as differences in focus and exposure between the Left and

Right eye images.

CRITICAL THINKING

Participants will:

• Learn to identify the correct capture tools necessary to professionally shoot a subject in 3D, or in the case where the best tool is not available, be able to manipulate the tools available to make it function.
